According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, some banks have begun to charge a monthly fee for debit card holders who use their cards to make purchases. These fees range from $3 to $5 per month and you may already be paying them!

In May, 2011 Moneywatch.com reported that Bank of America is now charging a monthly service charge of $12 for a basic checking account. Other banks are following suit and have begun the frenzy of monthly fees on their basic checking accounts too.

Those numbers add up quickly – $12 plus $4 a month equals $192 a year!
